HYPERSENSITIVITY AND ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK

Abstract
Since the wide use of antibiotics, the unexpected accidents from anaphylactic shock, particularly, of penicillin shock, not only often has become legal problems, but also has led some patients deficient in medical knowledge to distrust physicians.
In the belief that clinicians will require fuller knowledge and understanding of hypersensitivity and anaphylactic shock, particularly its causative factors and mechanism, and wider knowledge regarding anaphylaxis and various side reactions, the author has made an extensive survey of literatures in this field, and has given a summarized explanation. At the same time, the author has attempted to emphasize that various tests designed to detect hypersensitivity in advance are not perfect. In addition, the author has suggested measures for preventing anaphylactic shock as much as possible, and methods of treatment for shock and side reaction when they occurred.
